How to Choose the Right Color for Kitchen Appliances
Update:2012-09-25

Your kitchen appliances should feature a color that complements the color scheme of the rest of the kitchen and the decor of any adjoining rooms. The size of the room and the mood you wish to create play into choosing appliance colors. Keep in mind that appliances are expensive and last for years, so you need to think carefully before you commit to an appliance color.

1.      Decide on the style you would like to project in your kitchen. If you want a comfortable country kitchen, consider using appliances with neutral tones like beige to complement soft prints and lighter cabinetry. For a more contemporary look, consider black, white, gray or stainless steel appliances.

2.      Choose a lighter color like white for a smaller space to give the kitchen an uncluttered appearance and create a better visual flow. Larger kitchens can accommodate bolder appliance colors, like black or stainless steel, which can provide a dramatic contrast against a vivid wall color.

3.      Coordinate appliance colors so that they work well with the color of your cabinetry. Darker, rich wood tones like cherry or mahogany complement sleek stainless steel appliances, while lighter cabinetry goes best with lighter colored appliances.

4.      Think about the position of the kitchen in relationship to the other rooms in your home. If your kitchen features a design that is open to the seating areas of the living room or den, make sure the color scheme you select for your kitchen, including appliances, flows with the rest of your home décor.
