Juicing Tips
Update:2012-09-25

Juicing is the process of extracting juice from plant tissues such as fruit or vegetables. There are many methods of juicing, from squeezing fruit by hand to wide scale extraction via industrial equipment. Juicing by individuals is often completed with a household appliance called a juicer, which may be as simple as a cone upon which fruit is mashed or as sophisticated as a variable-speed, motor-driven device.

These juicing techniques are rules that consistently work! Adhere to them, and your juicing-habit will start to roll like clockwork every day.

When you start juicing, start with some vegetables that you like and enjoy. At the same time try avoiding, or at least minimizing, overly sweet juices. The sweet juices are nice as a treat, but you do want to minimize the sugar content. With time, you will most likely find that your taste buds and body might enjoy the juices that, in the beginning, you did not enjoy.

Juicing Tips and Helpful Hints

  • The juice machine stays on the counter and in sight at all times.
  • Before juicing any produce it is important to wash it thoroughly to remove all contaminants such as

     pesticides.

  • Remove all stems.
  • Always serve juice immediately. Juice is at its peak when freshly squeezed. After seconds, it starts to

     lose vitamin potency.

  • When peeling citrus fruits, try to leave the pith on (white soft layer between peel and fruit). Juice it to get

     the vitamins it contains.

  • Do not force food into the juicer- allow food to pass through slowly and steadily.
  • Remove large pits in fruits such as cherries, peaches, plums and mangoes. They will damage the juicer.
  • When using leafy greens always roll into a ball before feeding through the chute.
  • Don’t try to juice produce such as avocados, bananas or coconut as they do not contain much juice

and  will clog your juicer. These items are better served blended in smoothies.
